Kids’ Chance Recipients
Since 1993, $621,000 in scholarships has been awarded to over 200 students. More than fifty students have graduated so far with help from Kids’ Chance. The Kid’s Chance Scholarship recipients are listed below.
2015 Recipients
Burroughs, Judith – $2,000. Judith Burroughs of Bessemer is the daughter of the late Henry Burroughs and Lena Burroughs. She is studying accounting at the University of Alabama. Judith’s father died in a fork lift accident while on the job.
Duggan, James – $2,500. James Duggan is the son of Richard and Sharolyn Duggan of Gulf Shore. James is attending Birmingham Southern College where he is majoring in physics. James’s father was injured in a fuel tanker truck accident on the job. He has since had multiple surgical procedures on his neck.
Johnson, Kori– $2,500. Kori Johnson of Birmingham is the granddaughter of Deborah Johnson. She will attend Alabama A&M University this fall to study civil engineering. Kristen’s grandmother suffered wrist injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome as a result of her job.
Jones, Victoria– $2,000. Victoria is the daughter of Clint & Carol Jones of Madison and Jeanie Jones of Murfeesboro. Victoria is attending Middle Tennessee State University where she is studying Biology in hopes of one day becoming a Pediatric Neurologist. Victoria’s mother was permanently disabled as the result of an injury at work.
Knowles, Kelcie– $2,000. Kelcie Knowles of Jemison is the daughter of Debbie Knowles and the late Shannon Beam. Kelcie is attending The University of Alabama where she is studying political science and criminal justice in hopes of pursuing a law degree. Mr. Beam was killed in a work related accident.
Miles Lansdell– $2,000. Miles Lansdell of Muscle Shoals is the son of Lisa Lansdell and the late Darryl Lansdell. Miles will be attending The University of Alabama this fall where he will study environmental engineering. His father died in a truck driving accident on the job.
Russell Moses – $2,500. Russell Moses of Grove Oak is the son of Dawn and Barry Moses. Russell is going to attend The University of Alabama to study Chemical Engineering. Russell’s father was permanently disabled after suffering injuries from an on the job construction accident.
Owens, Nicholas – $2,500. Nicholas Owens of Sylacauga is the son of Terry and Linda Owens. He is currently attending The University of Montevallo where he is studying Biology. Nicholas’s father suffered neck and back injuries while working.
Prestridge, Bennett– $2,000. Bennett Prestridge of Jasper is the son of Timothy and Lee Prestridge. Bennett attends Bellville State Community College where he is studying Advanced EMT with plans to become a licensed EMT and complete a Paramedic degree. Mr. Prestridge suffered a severe head injury when he was involved in a car accident while on the job.
Yana Rodgers– $2,500. Yana Rodgers of Jackson is the daughter of the late Freddie Rodgers and Deborah Rodgers George. Yana is studying Pre-Pharmacy at the University of West Alabama. Her father was killed in a work related accident.
