Foundation President Mary Margaret Bailey Receives Award from Legal Services Alabama – October 26, 2020

Legal Services Alabama recently honored Alabama Law Foundation President Mary Margaret Bailey with its first “Legal Services Alabama Pro Bono Fairness Award.” Ms. Bailey has practiced law for over 20 years with the Frazer Greene firm in Mobile. She previously served as President of the Mobile Bar Foundation and has been a member of the Alabama Law Foundation’s Board of Trustees since 2010.

The Fairness Award recognizes individuals or law firms in Alabama who have made a contribution to pro bono work and access to justice. During its Justice/Fairness/Hope Awards Reception on October 6, 2020, Legal Services Alabama explained that Ms. Bailey has promoted equal access to justice and demonstrated exemplary commitment to civil legal aid both locally and statewide, most recently through her service as President of the Alabama Law Foundation. Upon receiving the Fairness Award, Ms. Bailey pointed to the foundation’s work in supporting providers of civil legal aid. “The need is great here in Alabama, especially now, and we can each contribute in our own way; no contribution is too small,” she said. “I’m proud of the work done by the Alabama Law Foundation and proud to have played a part in that work.” Ms. Bailey was honored alongside Congresswoman Terri Sewell, recipient of the Tommy Wells Justice Award, and the late Congressman John Lewis, recipient of the Hope Award.

The Alabama Law Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with the Alabama State Bar. It is the largest in-state funder of civil legal aid in Alabama. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees assumes the responsibility of advancing its mission of making equal access to justice a reality for all Alabama citizens. Since 1989, the Foundation has awarded over $22 million in grants to organizations around the state which provide free legal services to low-income residents of Alabama. Legal Services Alabama, a grantee of the Alabama Law Foundation, provides civil legal aid from eight offices located throughout Alabama.
