Alabama Law Foundation announces 2023 Fellows

2023 Fellows

May 20, 2023 – (MONTGOMERY, Ala.) – The Alabama Law Foundation is pleased to announce the lawyers selected as 2023 Fellows. Each year the Alabama Law Foundation inducts a new class of Fellows. Members of the Fellows nominate fellow Bar members they feel demonstrate outstanding commitment to the profession and their communities. A committee made up of Fellows selects new members from the nominations received. Fellows provide leadership and support for the Alabama Foundation’s programs that promote access to justice.

“Our Fellows are incredibly important to the work of the Alabama Law Foundation,” said ALF Board President Matt McDonald. “They are the leaders in the legal community and represent those willing to provide guidance to move forward the ultimate mission of the legal profession – lawyers render service. They set an example for service and guide other lawyers along the path to ensure access to justice for all, no matter their circumstances.”

The Alabama Law Foundation established the Fellows program in 1995. No more than 1% of Bar members may become Fellows; therefore, the selection committee invites into fellowship an exceptional group of lawyers who have demonstrated their dedication to improving their communities and state. The Charter Fellows were past presidents of the Alabama State Bar and the Alabama Law Foundation.

“To me, being an Alabama Law Foundation Fellow is about being a difference-maker in and through the profession of law – being someone who creates positive change and who illustrates excellence, integrity, and generosity of one’s time, talents, and resources to improve the lives of others,” said C. Gibson Vance, Principal at Beasley Allen Law Firm in Montgomery, who was selected as a Fellow in 2016. Vance is current President of the Alabama State Bar.

“During my nearly three decades as an attorney, I have watched and learned from some of the best what it takes to be a leader in this profession. Passion for the job, compassion, communication skills, a willingness to listen, good time management, a commitment to life-long learning, perseverance, good judgement – those are just some of those traits,” Vance said. “However, those that inspire me most aren’t just working on their professional success, they’re putting their energy into truly make a lasting difference in their community, the profession, and the lives of others.”
